Follow these steps to edit: Go to File > Info. Select Protect document. Select Enable Editing.

Unlock a protected document On the Review tab, in the Protect group, click Restrict Editing. In the Restrict Formatting and Editing task pane, click Stop Protection. If you are prompted to provide a password, type the password.

Open any Word document for which you have edit permissions. Click the Editing button in the ribbon (in the top-right corner, next to the Share button), and then click Reviewing or Viewing to switch to a different way of working with your document. (NOTE: The button name will change based on the selected mode.)

Select the file that you want to share. Click Share or Share . Under 'General access' click the Down arrow . Choose Anyone with the link. To decide what role people will have, select Viewer, Commenter or Editor. Click Copy link. Click Done. Paste the link in an email or any place where you want to share it.

If you receive or open a document and can't make any changes, it might be Open for viewing only in Protected View. Follow these steps to edit: Go to File > Info. Select Protect document.

Open one already existing office file like excel > Select the "File" > Options tab > select "Trust Center" > click "Trust Center Settings"> select Protected View (you can see protected view is enabled by default) > To disable it, uncheck all the boxes next to the corresponding items > click OK.

Restrict Editing Under Editing restrictions, select Allow only this type of editing in the document, and make sure the list says No changes (Read only). Select Yes, Start Enforcing Protection. In the box that opens, type a password you'll be able to remember, and then type the password again to confirm it.

On the Review tab, in the Protect group, click Restrict Editing. In the Editing restrictions area, select the Allow only this type of editing in the document check box. In the list of editing restrictions, click No changes (Read only).
